Brad Catler


Brad Catler performs and records on Electric Bass, Chinese Sheng, Pedal Steel Guitar, Sitar, Sarod, Tabla, Tin Whistles, Surbarhar and Fretless Bass - all of which he tunes in Just Intonation.

He studied with Zakir Hussain, Allah Rakha, Akram Khan and T.N. Chang. He played the world premier of the composition "December 1942" of Harry Partch with the American Festival of Microtonal Music in NYC as well as many other performances of Partch's music in Europe and in the States.

Brad Catler is one of the original members of La Monte Young & The Forever Bad Blues Band, and he has performed other compositions by Young including world premieres of The Theatre of Eternal Music Big Band. For many years, Brad has accompanied dancers and composed for dance, including Kathak, Flamenco, Middle Eastern and Modern Styles, and has played in the Just Intonation rock band, The Microtones, and the overtone trio, The Catler Brothers.

Currently, Brad Catler is touring Europe as percussionist with Giora Feidmann, the "King of Klezmer," and Ensemble, playing Tabla, Dumbek, Zarb, Frame Drums and Vocals. Catler is also featured percussionist with Birdhouse.
